By Robert Lavallee – Community Developer Blog Post for January 21-25

Aniin – Boozhoo – to all the members in the Treaty 2 Territory! So far I have visited Ashkowananing, Skownan First Nation – where I grew up. I had the privilege to grow up with my grandfather, nimishomis Carl Gabriel who was Ogiimaakaan of Skownan First Nation in 1964-65.
As a direct descendant, I am honored to be part of the Treaty 2 Territory and its beautiful people. I am humbled to do this work with each and every one of you. As I travel throughout the territory I am reminded of the beauty that surrounds us. The land, the water and resources.

The First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory staff all attended the Land, Water and Resource Council meeting in Skownan First Nation on January 21st. At the meeting we learned about the changes to the Navigable Waters Act and also heard from people like Deana Catcheway who spoke about how she is connected to the land.

The above photo was taken at the new hall in Skownan First Nation. Members of the First Nation heard from Rarikowitz at a Community Members Governance Special Presentation.

Skownan First Nation has always been known for participating in community meetings and it this one was very well attended by members of the council, elders and youth.
