Pinaymootang First Nation-About 60 community members attended the local Elders gathering at Fairford on Monday to listen to a presentation containing details as Treaty 2 First Nations work toward becoming a self-governing entity.
A short history of our Treaty was presented before focus shifted toward the actual process of how that is going to take place.
A question and answer session followed which took a great deal of time where concerns were expressed including how existing programs and monies were going to flow to the community level.
Health Care and non-insured health benefits were among the most pressing issues that the elders were concerned about.
Treaty 2 Senior Official Boh Kubrakovich explained that the process was a community oriented one where they were the decision makers and would form their representation based on what was important to them.
Kubrakovich explained that we needed to get Canada to implement the Treaty and that there was no engaging and unifying historically and that compensation needed to be worked on as part of reconciliation.
