Nation-Based Sovereign-Based Government

Community-based Treaty-based governance key to moving forward

April 24, 2019

Keeseekoowenin, Treaty 2 Territory – Chief Bone and his newly elected council continue to strive towards solid governance as they hosted the FNiT2T senior officials today.  Community-based Treaty-based governance has been the focus for the past few years but more, so now as the collective government continues to work together to the protect the entire Treaty 2 Territory.   This process seems more logical than ever now with the Nation being the right holders in the territory and Canada wanting to work with FNiT2T to implement the original treaty which has never been after 148 years.

The FNiT2T staff continue to present the current structure with the seven (7) operating Councils along with the purpose of Treaty 2 which was to protect the territory and “….to open up to settlement and immigration a tract of country bounded and described hereinafter mentioned, and to obtain the consent thereto of her Indian subjects inhabiting the said tract, and to make treaty and arrangements with them, so that there be peace and good will…” and to be compensated for the land taken!

Next governance session with Keeseekoowenin will be on Monday, April 29.
