Bill C-92, An Act Respecting First Nation, Metis, Inuit Children and Youth
This Bill has completed the 2nd reading stage and review by the Standing Committee. Amendments may be recommended and voting will occur. During the 3rd reading if voted in favour, the Bill will move forward to receive royal assent and become a federal law. Due to the crisis status of child welfare it is recommended for consideration that should the Bill become law that FNiT2T deliberate on moving forward with the implementation of the Coordination Agreement in order to address current child apprehensions, birth alerts, reunification and prevention measures.
Canada, through Minister Seamus O’Regan is offering to meet with FNiT2T. A letter will be drafted to Canada to request a meeting to discuss Bill C-92.
FNiT2T Children and Families Law Development
The FNiT2T Constitutional Law Development will be the foundation of subsequent law development in many areas such as Life Long Learning and Land and Natural Resource Protection.
The FNiT2T Researcher Positions regarding child welfare law development engagements with First Nations will be revisited in order to look at incorporating advocacy and delivery and/or capacity building with respect to access to programs for FNiT2T children and families. This revisit is due to immediate concerns and assistance being requested by FNiT2T citizen members.
