FNT2T monitoring CN’s spill site at St Lazare

July 19, 2019

Treaty 2 Territory – FNT2T Care and Protection of the Natural World and staff continue to monitor the spill site. Staff have taken water samples at the CN Derailment site near St Lazare, Manitoba to be tested at a lab in Winnipeg.

FNT2T staff along with landowner Jaime Corre came across Turtle tracks in the vicinity of Derailment site causing concern about the Turtle habitat.

Staff continue to strive for a better relationship with CN since the derailment. CN has been slow on this front, they are only visitors in the Treaty 2 Territory and no arrangement for access to the lands or compensation for use have ever been made since they arrived in the late 1800’s.
