Elders gather in St. Martin

August 12, 2019

Treaty 2 Territory – We were in the community of St. Martin on Aug 08 and 09 to attend the community elder gathering. The communities of Dauphin River First Nation, Little Sask First Nation, Lake St. Martin and Pinaymootang First Nation attended the gathering with other elders from the surrounding area also in attendance.

The purpose of the gathering was to come up with ideas suggestions on how to get the communities to deal with the repatriation process from the flooding. Renew partnerships within the communities and to strengthen social networks with the youth and elders.

Over the two day gathering there were many stories and teachings shared who were in attendance. Indigenous Affairs Canada and Red Cross were also in attendance to hear the concerns of the elders and to answer many of the questions that were asked by the elders. Attendance was great and much was shared with all in the audience.
