Nation-Based Sovereign-Based Government

Letter mandating Interlake Reserves Tribal Council (IRTC) to look after Emergency Management-Measures

September 18, 2019

Treaty 2 Territory – The FNT2T Government was officially formed on 12 June 2018 after well over a decade of the collective of local Nations coming together. We are working toward restoration of original governance and self-determination.  The FNT2T Governing Council is unified in rebuilding The Nation and Treaty 2 Territory and sanctioned the FNT2T Government to proceed with all infrastructure, programs and services to go directly to our Local Nations though our process.

At our Grand Council (gathering of the people) on 27/28 August 2019, the members supported our Government decisions passed by way of resolutions throughout the calendar year.  One in particular was resolution 2019-08-07-007.

Resolution 2019-08-07-007 moved by Chief Norman Bone (Chair of WRTC), Keeseekoowenin Ojibway Nation and seconded by yourself (Chair of IRTC), Lake Manitoba First Nation mandated the Government of FNT2T to carry out all necessary actions in order to have the Tribal Councils within the Treaty 2 Territory join and be integrated into the Government of FNT2T structure under the regional office development so that we are all able to be unified and able to serve our people in an effective way and close any gaps. The key is to get all infrastructure, programs and services directly flowed to the Nations and people through the original treaty and relationship process with our partner.

Working in unity is key and we have started the process on the future development as a collaborative territory and regional process which will take time. During this transition and rebuilding period which is underway, we are in support of the IRTC during the 2019/20 period to continue to manage programs and services for our Local Nations it is mandated to do so.  One program and service in particular is Emergency Management.

IRTC is a solid leader with Emergency Management and with the expertise they would be able to continue this service for all of our member Local Nations for the Government of FNT2T throughout the Treaty 2 Territory.

Nothing about us, without us, in unity we remain

Grand Chief Eugene Eastman
