Treaty 2 Territory – On Wednesday 2 October, Pinaymootang First Nation through the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory (FNT2T) Government began a series of children, families and wellbeing law development sessions. The sessions will also be carried out with the other ten (10) FNT2T.
These sessions are intended for all member citizens of each First Nation. The law will be made by the Families and Children of each First Nation.
Pinaymootang reviewed a historical chronology from a 0 to today timeline that focused on how colonization has impacted our children and families, a general law template, a draft child and family wellbeing template. A work plan was mapped out which includes the creation of a child and family wellbeing law committee.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 9:30 to 3:00 pm at the Pinaymootang Conference Center. Everyone’s participation is welcome and important.
I’m enjoying this process, I’m learning a lot, it’s been a long time coming”.
“The legislation (provincial cfs) sets us up to fail we need our own law that recognizes our own standards”.
“I’m glad we are getting the direct assistance we need from FNT2T with this process that is creating opportunity to address the needs of our children and families”.
The session was facilitated by FNT2T and attended by members, elders, Health, ACFS, Jordan’s Principle, E&T. It has been recommended that obtaining the perspectives of youth and family is very important.
