Local Nations in Treaty 2 Territory declares state of emergency; FNT2T local Nations Prepare to evacuate Families & Elders

Treaty 2 Territory – Manitoba Hydro has been working around the clock as communities in the Interlake Region lose power from the heavy snowfall within the last 48 hours.

The Interlake Reserves Tribal Council has started the process of evacuating children, their parents, and elders.

Chief Cornell McLean and the IRTC released a statement seeking immediate action from the Province of Manitoba for emergency management.

Local Nations affected; Dauphin River, Kinonjeoshtegon, Lake Manitoba, Lake St. Martin, Little Saskatchewan, O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi, Peguis and Pinaymootang Nations.

Manitoba Hydro crews continue their efforts to restore power in the affected communities.
