Blanket Exercise in Ebb and Flow First Nation

November 28, 2019

November 26, 2019 – Ebb and Flow First Nation / First Nations Treaty 2 Territory

To begin reconciliation one must begin with one’s self.  Ebb and Flow First Nation hosted a unique participatory Blanket Exercise session for youth and adults in their community.

The Blanket Excercise is an interactive way of learning the history most Canadians were never taught.  The goal of the session is to teach a shared understanding of the history of the relationship between the Indigenous and Non Indigenous.

Phyllis Racette and Elder Gladys Malcolm hosted the session in partnership with the Ste. Rose RCMP Detachment (who also sponsored the initiave through their Family Violence Program).  Many youth and members from neighbouring communities participated in the informative session and all walked away with a greater understanding of pre-contact, treaty making, colonization, resistance and reconciliation. Miigwetch to all the participants and coordinators!
