Treaty 2 Territory – Hockey Night in Treaty 2 Territory (HNT2T) was an exciting event, bringing the FNT2T and the City of Dauphin together through sports. This was the second Hockey Night in Treaty 2 Territory hosted by the Dauphin Kings Junior A Hockey Organization. Darcy Malcolm of Ebb and Flow First Nation was the Master of Ceremonies for HNT2T and provided a great presentation for those in attendance. The event kicked off with a Flag & Honour song by North Wolf Ojibwe of Ebb and Flow First Nation, followed by welcoming remarks by Chief Wayne Desjarlais on behalf of Grand Chief Eugene Eastman, and prayer by elder Louie Malcolm. Chief Cameron Catcheway, Chief John Stagg, Councillor Leroy Thompson and Special Guests were in attendance included Allan Dowhan Mayor of Dauphin, Ron Ryz Reeve RM of Dauphin, Brad Michaleski MLA Manitoba, Chief Viola Eastman of Canupawakpa Dakota Nation, Chief David Crate of Fisher River Cree Nation, Dauphin Kings & MJHL Leading Scorer Nakodan Greyeyes Pinaymootang and Daniel Chartrand Northwest Metis Council.
Chief Wayne Desjarlais conducted the puck drop with captains of the Dauphin Kings and Waywayseecappo Wolverines. The Dauphin Kings hockey team showcased Treaty 2 hockey jerseys with the colours and logo of the FNT2T. Gator Beaulieu of Ebb and Flow First Nation sang ‘O Canada’ in English and Ojibwe languages.
1st Intermission entertainment included a performance by the D-Town Steppers of Dauphin, MB and the surrounding areas. The 2nd Intermission included a performance by the Mousseau Brothers Band and Lachelle Packulak and a mini Novice Hockey Game between Winnipegosis (Skownan members) and Dauphin. The game resulted in a victory for the Dauphin Kings after defeating Waywayseecappo with a final score of 3-2.
The FNT2T would like to say “Giche Miigwetch” to the Dauphin Kings Junior A Hockey Organization and Marketing Manager Chris, and the City of Dauphin for Hockey Night in Treaty 2 Territory.
