Treaty 2 Territory – Skownan First Nation members and the FNT2T met on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020. Communications Keeper Ray Mousseau and Local Nation Helper Kendra Kakewash met with Skownan School principal Curtis Nepinak, Elder Harvey Nepinak, Jordan’s Principle staff member Kevin Catcheway, and Carla Catcheway to discuss the plans moving forward with Anishinaabemowin in Skownan. Dates will be finalized within the coming weeks for the sessions which will be host to students in grades 6, 7, and 8 at the school. Elder Harvey Nepinak provided recommendations for Ojibwe language sessions. It is important to educate our youth of the history of their own nations.
Skownan First Nation will be sending participants to the 2020 Winter Games. Kevin Catcheway of Skownan will work closely with high School students, who attend high school outside their nation, to ensure they have an opportunity to participate in the game.
