Treaty 2 Nation Schools Learning About Their History and Treaty 2

February 2, 2020

Treaty 2 Territory – The Life Long Learning Lodge Keeper Allen Sutherland and Eastern Regional Coordinator Darlene Woodhouse visit several Treaty 2 Nation schools in the Treaty 2 Territory in the week of January 27th, 2020. Students got to hear about their Anishinaabe history and about their Treaty #2 with the Crown. The schools that was visited were Pinaymootang, Little Saskatchewan, Dauphin River and Lake St. Martin.

The students, staff and some community members were able learn about their continent of North America (Turtle Island), the migration of the Anishinaabe after the ice age, the history of the lands and territories where they live now and most importantly to learning about their identity and prominent role that their ancestors played into the making of Treaty 2 in 1871.

Darlene Woodhouse provided prizes from the First Nations Treaty 2 Territory by having the students answering questions to what they have just learned.

With the Principle Lalaine Tugade, Allen Sutherland, Darlene Woodhouse and Local Nation Helper Yolanda Thompson (Dauphin River)

Should you wish to have Allen Sutherland to visit your Nation (Organizations, School, Community) please contact your Local Nation Helper in your community. Allen will be at Pinaymootang School on February 11th and Lake St. Martin on February 13th. I am looking forward in seeing everyone!
