Treaty 2 Territory – The 2020 Winter Games kicked off with Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, February 26th, 2020 at the Pinaymootang Conference Centre. Master of Ceremonies Ray Mousseau presented the agenda to 320 athletes, 150 volunteers at the Opening Ceremonies. Welcoming remarks were conducted by Pinaymootang First Nation Chief Garnett Woodhouse, FNT2T Grand Chief Eugene Eastman, Chief Norman Bone of Keeseekoowenin First Nation, Councillor Leroy Thompson of Little Saskatchewan First Nation, Councillor Jimmy Chartrand of Skownan First Nation, MLA Amanda Lathlin, Elder Louie Malcolm, Sports & Recreation Keeper Lana Racette, and Lead Keeper Boh Kubrakovich.
Grand Chief Eastman shared the importance of uniting, It is though sports such as the Winter Games where our people unite, “It brings energy to our nations in coming together. Chief Garnett Woodhouse acknowledged the nations of Treaty 2 for “coming together unified” and shared the importance of the youth in being unified, and keeping the unity within the Treaty 2 Territory, “everything has been going well in the last three years and we will continue to see more positive thing happening with Treaty 2.” The theme of the 2020 Winter Games is Uniting Our Nation By Sports. Chief Woodhouse, Chief Bone, and Grand Chief Eastman wished all the athletes and volunteers a safe & respectful week, and showed their support for the youth.
The 2020 Winter Games Local Nation Committee presented a Winter Games Inaugural Plaque to the Pinaymootang First Nation leadership. Chief Woodhouse welcomed all the participants and encouraged everyone to have fun. The Winter Games are held February 26 – 29, 2020 in Pinaymootang First Nation.
