Treaty 2 Territory- After 4 days of participating at the Treaty 2 Winter Games in Pinaymootang First Nation, 33 youth and 4 chaperones made the trip home to Ebb and Flow. Leaving the beautiful Nation of Pinaymootang wasn’t easy for some participants as many were saddened that the event had come to an end. Many friendships and memories were made in addition to new found confidence and skill in our athletes.
Participants not only arrived home to their families sporting gold, silver, and bronze medals, but all youth were decked out in beautiful gold sweaters and toques as memorabilia of the 2020 Treaty 2 Winter Games. I was approached by one participant from our nation who said “I feel like I just played in the Olympics. I feel so special”.
The participants and chaperones from Ebb and Flow would like to extend appreciation to the Elders for their prayers during Open and Closing Ceremonies and mealtimes, the Treaty 2 Organization, to the incredible Winter Games Committee, the volunteers, the security, the referees, time keepers, and those who prepared and served the wonderful meals. Special thank you to Trevor Anderson for transporting us to and from Moosehorn daily. Thank you to Nadine Anderson, and Lana Racette for their tenacious and unwavering efforts to make these games happen!!
And finally, we would like to thank Chief Garnet Woodhouse, Council, and the Nation of Pinaymootang for their amazing hospitality. We were welcomed and cared for as though we were your very own. Someday, we hope to return and reciprocate that kindness to your young people.
Miigwech!
Take Care. Until next time…
