Youth Council high priority within the Nation, Territory and Government of FNT2T

Treaty 2 Territory – The Youth Council met to discuss next steps to take within the youth, sports and recreation sector of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory.  After a very successful First Annual Winter Games 2020 in Pinaymootang, the Youth Council is ready to expand its wings.  A report will be made available to all FNT2T Councils.

The Council discussed the structure of the FNT2T Sports and Recreation Association under the Nation Development Circle and the Corporations within the FNT2T Government. The Council fully supports the creation of FNT2T Sports and Recreation Association.  Along with the establishment of the FNT2TS&RA is the Basketball, Lacrosse, Hockey Associations and the endorsement of the established FNT2T School Athletic Association.

The Council further discussed the next Summer Games sending out the Local Nation Bid package for the next Local Nation host.

The next Youth Council will be Monday 30 March 2020 in Pinaymootang.  The agenda will discuss any applications there may be for a Local Nation host for each the Summer and Winter Games, along with the selection of a Chairperson for the Youth Council who will chair all the meetings, and represent the Council at the Governing Council who meets four (4) times a year.
Overview of the Terms of Reference (ToR)

The Youth Council provides recommendations and guide the Governing Council and Executive Council in their deliberations.  A representative from the Youth Council participates at all meetings to give their needed and valued guidance.

The First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory recognize the youth as a priority and vital contributors to The Nation, Territory and Government.

The Youth Council is made up of one (1) appointed member from each Local Nation within First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory. The Chairperson of the Council is part of the Governing Council.

Under Sport; With time, annual recognition, leagues and both summer and winter games alternating years will be organized.  Funds will be used from the levies that are collected from industry using our resources outside of immigration and settlement in our territory.

Ray Mousseau discussions the FNT2T Excel Centre at the newly acquired Life Long Learning Lodge – 19 Memorial Blvd (Old Thunders).  Purchased for our K-4 School, LLLL and Excel Centre.
