First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory acknowledged at the 2020 Manitoba Highschool AA Hockey Championships

Treaty 2 Territory – Communications Keeper Ray Mousseau and FNT2T Lead Keeper Boh Kubrakovich were invited to the 2020 Manitoba Highschool AA Championships in Rivers on Thursday, March 12th. The opening ceremonies was presented to spectators and fans, with 6 hockey teams and organizers.

Bruce Helgeson invited and acknowledged the event taking place in the Treaty 2 Territory. Bruce shared the importance of reconciliation through sports and education. Bruce is no stranger to the development of hockey programming. He is a former coach of the Dauphin Kings, and helped developed the hockey program in Rivers. The team from Rivers showed their support by wearing customized hockey jerseys with the 4 sacred colours of the medicine wheel.

Boh and Ray of the FNT2T presented the Indigenous players on Rivers’ hockey team with a Treaty 2 Medal and Official Treaty 2 Territory flag. The opening was a huge success and showcased reconciliation indeed. Miigwetch to Bruce and the organizers for acknowledgment of the FNT2T Government, traditional lands, and Indigenous culture!
