Treaty 2 Territory – April 24, 2020, Boozhoo Aaniin, I would first like to encourage all of you to remain safe and vigilant as we navigate our way through COVID 19. Steps are in place to keep our communities and our families safe.
As the weather warms up the ice is receding and the water is flowing, which means the spring spawn is almost here. The Dauphin Lake Tributaries are a favorite gathering spot for a lot of our families as they get their feed of spring fish from the spring run off. I would like to remind our citizens there are still some restrictions in place and to be cognizant of them to ensure we are compliant with the conservation measures that are in place.
We are asking fishers to release all fish in the 45-70cm slot size
Use rod and reel only to harvest fish from the Dauphin Lake tributaries.
While we have laws of conservation in place, we also have Natural Laws that our people have practiced since time immemorial. Indigenous people have contributed greatly to the recovery of the fish stocks in Dauphin Lake so we encourage all users to continue the wise use of the fish stocks and to remember our Elders teachings, that what we take today is borrowed from our grandchildren.
