Little Saskatchewan moves forward with Inherent Right to Govern

Treaty 2 Territory – Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Leadership of Little Saskatchewan First Nation and FNT2T Staff met at the FNT2T Government Building for discussions on Governance. Chief Hector Shorting, Councillor Leroy Thompson, Councillor Darrell Shorting, and Councillor Albert Shorting were presented an update on the Government of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory.

“We believe in our treaty and our inherent right to govern ourselves.  We are Treaty 2”, said Chief Hector Shorting.

Lead Keeper Boh Kubrakovich started the meeting and presented the FNT2T Agenda including Term Sheet with Canada/RIRSD table, Unfinished Treaty Business and Restorative Peacemaking. Shawn Gurke, GIS & Mapping Specialist presented the map and land capabilities of Little Saskatchewan. Shawn presented information and visuals for those in attendance.

Special Projects Keeper – RO Pinaymootang, Lana Racette shared an update on the Regional Offices and Communications Keeper Ray Mousseau presented the websites of the FNT2T, Anishinaabemowin, and Little Saskatchewan website to the leadership. Miigwech Little Saskatchewan First Nation for participating in the Government of the FNT2T and moving forward in Governance!

Allen Sutherland, Life Long Learning Lodge Keeper presented the launching of the four (4) programs this fall in Restorative Peacemaking and FNT2T Financial Keepers working with the Treasury and Trust under the corporations.
