Treaty 2 Territory – On Friday 21 August 2020, the Ebb and Flow Anishinaabe Nation hosted the annual Leadership (Chief and Councils) Gathering of FNT2T government on the beautiful shores of Eagle Island in Ebb and Flow. Leaders from the Local Nations in Treaty 2 Territory were in attendance for the gathering. The FNT2T Knowledge Council was also in attendance. This was an acknowledgement of the making of Treaty 2 on 21 August 1871 at Manitoba House.
There will be a gathering next year to also acknowledge 150 years of the making of the treaty. Chief Wayne Desjarlais of the host Ebb and Flow welcomed everyone to Eagle Island for the gathering. The leaders from each community spoke of what treaty meant and how it was important to work together for a better future for our next generation. The leaders also talked of moving forward as a government and being self governing to protect the natural resources, inherent rights, and sovereignty .
It was a beautiful day for the gathering. Entertainment was provided by the Mousseau brothers of Ebb and Flow who played music for the people in attendance. A delicious meal of soup and bannock was served for lunch. The Government of FNT2T would like to thank Ebb and Flow for hosting this gathering and will continue to support our Local Nations in the Treaty 2 Territory.
