September 15, 2020

Treaty 2 Territory – Ochichakosipi community members received packages of wild meat that was harvested from the annual community hunt in area of Duck Mountian a traditional hunting grounds of the anishanabe people for generations. The community hunt was headed by Chief Eugene Eastman of Ochichakosipi and Grand Chief of Treaty 2 Territory, along with community members and knowledge keepers. This is an annual event that brings the community together to practise and teach the younger generation how to harvest wild game for sustenance. The harvest begins early September with the hunting crew camping out in the park for 10 days, with harvesting and the teachings throughout the duration of the harvest. This event gives the youth of the community an opportunity to be on the land and learning the hunting traditions of their parents and grandparents. Community harvesting has been going on for many generations with more and more communities participating. FNT2T government would like to congratulate the leadership and community for this important event for the young people and teaching for the future.
