Treaty 2 Territory – One of the longest known traditions of the Anishinaabeg is presenting a gift and offering for permission to enter another Territory. During the Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, September 16th 2020, Karen Kejick, Policy Knowledge Keeper of the FNT2T and member of Treaty 3 Territory, presented a gift and offering to Grand Chief Eugene Eastman. The gift and offering was a sign of respect and request for permission to enter the Treaty 2 Territory for hunting and gathering. Grand Chief Eastman was humbled and acknowledged the offering and gift received from an Anishinaabe Ikwe. It is not very often our people practice our traditions which have been in place since our existence. Today’s presentation does happen on occasion, but not very often from a woman. Giche Miigwech Karen and Grand Chief Eastman for reminding us of the traditions of the Anishinaabeg!
