Treaty 2 Member Profile; Kyle Edwards, Journalist & Editor

Treaty 2 Territory – Kyle Edwards is a member of the Ebb and Flow First Nation, and grew up in Lake Manitoba First Nation. Kyle spent his childhood in Lake Manitoba First Nation and Winnipeg, MB. He has spent many years as a hockey player in the Interlake Region and Winnipeg Minor Hockey while attending school. One of the things Kyle enjoyed doing is writing. He graduated high school from Maples Collegiate in 2011, and moved on to get his degree in Journalism in 2017 at Ryseron University.

Upon completion of his Journalism Degree, Kyle moved on to Chiefs of Ontario working along side former Regional Chief Isadore Day, CBC Toronto, Rogers Sportsnet, and Macleans.ca in Toronto, Canada. He’s had a good opportunity to work with professional supportive staff which allowed for him to grow as a professional journalist. In 2019, Kyle moved to New York, NY to become a writer for ProPublica. During 2019 he received the Canadian Association of Journalists Award for Emerging Indigenous Journalist.

Kyle now resides in Palo Alto, California and is the Editor for nativenewsonline.net. He is currently enrolled at Harvard University. The Government of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory would like to congratulate Kyle with his career, and wish all the best in his future endeavours. Giche Miigwech!
