Treaty 2 Territory – FNT2T Children, Families & Nation team members are Desiree Dorion (CFN Legal), Derek Nepinak (CFN Policy Keeper) and John Miswago(CFN Policy Keeper). We started working in December 2020. Our sub-circles main duty is to Draft a Law to assist Treaty 2 Nations with restoring jurisdiction over their children and families in a culturally appropriate manner that enhances the preservation of identity, culture, language, and ways of being under An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families (C-92). The work plan seeks to replace the entire Manitoba child welfare system, within Treaty 2 Territory.

CFN is working with all current agencies and governments to ensure that the child’s well-being is the priority in the transitionMany transition issues have been discussed including; A Coordination Agreement, Data Management, File Transfers, Provincial Inclusion, and New Capital Projects. CFN works closely with other FNT2T sub-circles on culturally appropriate practises

CFN is Drafting a Treaty 2 Child Care Law. We are also working with other Indigenous Nations across Canada on their Child Care Law Development processes & experiences.
