Recognizing our Ikwewak in our Local Nations, Nation and Government

 

Treaty 2 Territory – In honor of International Women’s Day, the Government of First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory (FNT2T) would like to acknowledge that we are leading the way among Indigenous governments as we have our Ikwewak (Women) Council and Ikwewak in key leadership roles.

 

Our Circle Keepers are currently leading sections of our government rewriting game changing policies and legislation such as Child care and Family Services, forming a peacemaking (justice) system based on our Anishinaabe systems which will restore the balance in our local Nations and intergovernmental relations.

Our Ikwewak have a leading role in our circles which include; Nation and Economic Development, Children, Families and Nation, Care and Protection of the Natural World, Internal and External Relations, Health and Wellbeing, Life Long Learning and Peacemaking. They are lawyers, teachers, negotiators and facilitators, mothers and grandmothers and are an integral part of our success presently and in the future of our government.
