FNT2T Youth Council meet to develop a ” Treaty 2 Athletic Association” in the territory for all youth in sports

Treaty 2 Territory – Ebb and Flow Nation virtually hosted the FNT2T Youth Council meeting on Thursday April 22, 2021. There were youth representatives from Keeseekoowenin Ojibway Nation, Pinaymootang, Tootinaowaziibeeng, Ochichakosipi, Lake St. Martin along with FNT2T Keepers and helpers, along with councillor Bradley Burns of Keeseekoowenin.

The agenda items that were discussed were:

  • Peacemaking Circle and Onankonehkawin
  • Children and Families and Nation Mino Ombigii’aa
  • Health and Wellbeing Circle
  • Treaty 2 Summer Games 2022
  • Treaty 2 Athletic Association
  • Next steps

Internal/External Keeper Darlene Woodhouse opened the meeting with an opening prayer. Chantel Barker, Peacemaking Circle Keeper gave a presentation to the Youth Council on the development of a Peacemaking system to replace the western colonial one at the present time. Children, Families and Nation Keeper Lois Stoll gave a presentation on the engagement and law development process for the CFN Circle. The youth council had an opportunity to listen and ask questions on each presentation and gave their thoughts on each.

There was discussion on Treaty 2 Summer Games 2022 and what sports would be played. The establishment of a Treaty 2 Athletic Association for the territory.

It was a positive meeting with recommendations to move forward on developing youth councils and councils in each local nation. The next regular schedule youth council is for May 27,2021.
