Treaty 2 Territory – April 30, 2021
Earth Lodge invited Traditional Knowledge Keeper Robert Maytwayashing to speak to our staff of First Nation Treaty 2 Territory on Governance in Anishinaabemowin. Robert shared his experience growing up being part of the land activities and later in his adult life participating in the Indian Act Chief & Council system as both as a Councillor and Chief. He talks from about getting back to traditional values like the teaching of respect as our young people have been spoiled with today’s technology. He talks about reconnecting to spirit and to look after the environment such as our waters in our Territory. We thanked Robert for his sharing and to welcome Robert for assisting the Earth Lodge in setting up the Sacred Fire Gathering – August 16 to 19, 2021 at Ebb & Flow First Nations.
Robert is Anishinaabe, raised in his people on the Lake Manitoba First Nation located in the Interlake Region of Manitoba. Robert is a pipe carrier, sweat lodge-keeper and attends the annual ceremony of Sundance. Robert has also hosted Warrior lodges and Eagle dances, to name a few. Over the years, Robert has served his Lake Manitoba First Nation community as both a Council member and Chief.
