Treaty 2 Territory – The Bizhiw Circle of Peacemaking is centered in the value of respect. The Elders teach us that respect starts with self then ripples out to others. The Bizhiw Circle is proactive and responsible for ensuring holistic wellness in the individual, family, and nation. The lynx promotes Mino-Bimaadiziwin by providing education/awareness, prevention, early intervention, and support services.
The Bizhiw Circle is responsible for education and awareness and will do so by attending schools, providing workshops, and through media campaigns. The Bizhiw Circle promotes Mino-Bimaadiziwin by providing holistic wellness plans, referrals, and provides information on education and employment opportunities. In addition, the Bizhiw Circle will be responsible for education and training for new Keepers and Helpers.
The Bizhiw Circle focuses on prevention and early intervention so that members can receive services when one is feeling out of balance. This will allow members to feel a sense of safety to receive services without the fear of being punished. Research shows that poverty is contributing factor to unhealthy behaviors, so it is important that the Lynx Circle will research and find employment and educational opportunities for local nation members.
The Bizhiw Circle will provide support services for victims and their families. They will assist the victims with a wellness plan, and access to counselling services. Support services can be accessed at any time through a self-referral, a family referral, a referral from any of the seven circles of Peacemaking, or anyone who has a concern for a loved one’s wellbeing. The Victim will have support throughout the entire Peacemaking Process. This will help the victim to feel loved, supported, and willing to begin the healing process.
