Nation-Based Sovereign-Based Government

MMIWGT Sub-Circle Meeting & Expansion

September 7, 2021

Treaty 2 – Nearly one year ago, on September 3, 2020, the Government of FNT2T Restorative Peacemaking resolution was passed. This resolution confirms FNT2T’s commitment to support the 2380 family testimonies and the 231 Calls to Justice from the Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.  This means we have an obligation to embed the Calls to Justice in the work we do as a Government. Furthermore, we accept an obligation to look to the MMIWG National Action Plan for guidance, and to hold Canada accountable to ensuring justice for T2T families and survivors.  In May 2021, The FNT2T Peacemaking Circle joined with the Health & Well-being Circle to form a MMIWGT Sub-Circle of staff to guide this important work. Last week on Friday September 3, 2021, we held a sub-circle meeting and invited staff from all FNT2T Circles. We had approximately half of our entire FNT2T staff attend, and we are excited to establish and complete action items such as reviewing opportunities for accessing Federal investment, looking for ways to support local nations in their quest for accessing resources, raising awareness through blogs and the Earth Lodge website, planning a gathering to engage with nations to discuss future roles and responsibilities for the MMIWGT sub-circle and FNT2T in general. Stay tuned for more updates about our MMIWGT sub-circle. If you have any questions, suggestions or recommendations to guide our work, please connect with Peacemaking Policy Keeper Jennifer Meixner, Jennifer.meixner@fnt2t.com
