Treaty 2 Territory – The Battle of the Nations 2021 golf tournament took place on September 18,2021 at the beautiful Gilbert Plains Golf and Country Club. 40 teams of 4 golfers, took part in the annual tournament to see who has the right to be winner of Battle of the Nations Champion for 2021. At the end of the day, the foursome team from Peguis, Patrick Mckay, Darrel Bear, Lolly Sinclair and Derek Bear were crowned 2021 Battle of the Nation champions and will have the opportunity to defend their title next year in 2022. The nations that took part came from all areas of Manitoba. This event began a few years ago and now is a favorite event of the indigenous golfers during the year. All golfers must play for their own nation in a 4 person scramble.

Another highlight of the day was the unveiling of a beautiful wood carving of a eagle and bear cub on a tree on the 9th hole. Chief Barry Mckay of Tootinaowaziibeeng and Chief Wayne Desjarlias were present for the unveiling. There were other leaders from the territory that were also in the golf tournament and at the unveiling. There are plans in make this a two day event to include women and juniors with men’s on the second day. FNT2T would like to thank all the golfers who participated to make this event a success and to the staff of the Gilbert Plains Golf Course who had the course in great condition. We look forward to another successful event next year.
