Treaty 2 Ogemaag takes a “Principled-Approach” to advance the Treaty-Crown Relationship with Canada’s Minister David Lametti

Treaty 2 Territory – Today on Treaty 2 Anishinabek Akii, Canada’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General was provided with a legal overview on the Peacemaking Legal Framework.

The Ogemaag reinforced ancestral direction and respectful relations. And within Gaazhi-gaa-bowe’iwaad – there was an emphasis that the Treaty-Crown relationship must occur on an on-going basis.  Of paramount importance is that Anishinaabe Onakonewkawin requires legal respect within Canada’s Constitutional framework.

The Political Circle dialogue centred around strategies within the context of Anishinaabe governing authority. Section 35 being the mechanism that will facilitate growth and connection between all systems in the pursuit of Mino-Bimaadiiziwin for all Treaty 2 Citizens.

The Treaty 2 Ogemaag look forward to the next political circle meeting with Minister Lametti.
