MMIWGT Strategic Vision

January 12, 2022

Treaty 2 – MMIWGT Sub-Circle met before the holidays on December 15, 2021 to develop a vision to guide the work of FNT2T in addressing violence against Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people. Description of the strategic vision:

Who

We recognize that we cannot address violence against women, girls and 2Spirit without acknowledging the roles and responsibilities of women, men and 2Spirit peoples; doing so, will restore and maintain balance and harmony in T2T.

Pillars

Traditional Knowledge à we must go to our nation citizens to learn important traditional knowledge that will guide and shape interventions and healing, and preventative efforts.

Healing & Intervention à the center, where all aspects of the vision intersect and come together, is healing and intervention. We understand this includes opportunities for healing and interventions that are focused on 1. individuals (2S, women and men), 2. Children and youth, 3. Families, 4. and at a local nation level.

Prevention à we have an opportunity to prevent harm to women, girls and 2S through education and awareness. Prevention should speak to all people (2S, women, men, and children).

This strategic vision will continue to evolve as we learn more.

Our next steps include:

  • creating a strategic vision statement to put on our website.
  • Hire a Lynx Helper who will begin mobilizing some of these ideas (education, awareness, etc).
  • Engage local nations for input, assessment of needs and area of strengths/resources.

Because of pandemic restrictions, engagement in the nations is challenging at this time. Please share your feedback by e-mail as we want to include all Treaty 2 voices.
