Knowledge Keepers meet to discuss treaty rights

Treaty 2 Territory – On January 25, 2022, the FNT2T Knowledge Council met online. There were representatives from the nations of Keeeseekoowenin, Lake St. Martin, Ebb and Flow, Pinaymootang, Skownan, Kithitkatchewanung, Little Saskatchewan and Gambler. Knowledge Keeper Elsie Marsden gave the opening prayer to start off the meeting in a good way. Ebb and Flow knowledge keeper Louie Malcom chaired the meeting of the Knowledge Council.

There were various topics that were discussed, there was a discussion on harvesting of wildlife and the protocols that were taught to the children when they would hunt for sustenance for their families. This lead to a bigger discussion on treaty rights and how they are recognized and implemented in all aspects of our anishanaabe way of life. There was also discussion on naming the territory in the anishanaabe language. There was much discussion on a various of important items that affect all members in the territory. The Knowledge Council meets regularly to give guidance to the on going developments of the FNT2T government and the nations in the territory.
