FNT2T Ikwewak Council meet in the new year to discuss Peacemaking and Child, Families and Nation

Treaty 2 Territory – The FNT2T Ikwewak (Women’s) Council met virtually on January 26, 2022. This is the first meeting of 2022 for the council. Florence Wood of Lake St. Martin gave the opening prayer for a good meeting and safety for all members in the territory. There were representatives from the nations of Keeseekoowenin, Gambler, Ochichakosipi, Pinaymootang, Tootinaowaziibeeng, Lake St. Martin and Kithitkatchewanung. The meeting was chaired by Allison Mckay of Keeseekoowenin Ojibway Nation. There were 2 main agenda items for discussion:

  • Peacemaking presentation/update
  • CFN (Child, Families and Nation) presentation/update

Chantel Barker Peacemaking Keeper gave an update to the council on the peacemaking law and circle with the latest developments. CFN Keeper Lois Stoll also presented to the council on Child, Families and Nation law development and what is needed to finalize the CFN law. There will be engagement sessions on each of the circles for input by local members. The next women’s council is set for February 22, 2022. The Ikwewak (Women’s) Council meets regularly to review motions/laws and give guidance to FNT2T government. Please look for upcoming notices and events near your nation.  Please stay safe.
