FNT2T member rights and climate change discussed at Care and Protection of the Natural World Circle

Treaty 2 Territory – The FNT2T CPNW Circle council met in person and online on March 2, 2022, at the government office in Dauphin Mb. There were representatives from the nations of Skownan, Little Saskatchewan, Gambler, and Ebb Flow. Louie Malcolm of Ebb Flow gave the opening prayer for a good meeting and safety for all people. The agenda items discussed:

  • CPNW workplan
  • Climate Change adaptation
  • Action items

Infringement of nation members rights were discussed also, in terms of hunting and the rights of the hunters and fisherman. Ron Missyabit CPNW keeper went over the workplan of the circle to the council for review and input. Climate change adaptation was also reviewed with input provided by the council members in attendance. There was much discussion on all these items and was agreed to further the rights and to stand up for treaty 2 members rights as indigenous hunters and gatherers. There were action items that were discussed and to be followed up on by FNT2T and the nation leadership. The CPNW circle meets regularly to review and give advice on many resolutions of the nation and FNT2T government. Please look for upcoming notices and engagement sessions in your nation.
