Treaty 2 Territory – It is official! Mark your calendars, we have summer games on July 12 and 13, 2022 at Eagles Island in Kakakwekejeong! Kakakwekejeong had their 2nd committee meeting which was Chaired by Treaty 2 Youth Council Co-Chair Tyrone Desjarlais. There were a lot of nation citizens on hand to take part in the planning stages of the games, double the amount from last meeting!
Eagles Island is located in the North East point of Kakakwekejeong Anishinaabe Nation, and was recently refurbished to have beach volleyball, basketball courts, and baseball diamonds. In addition to the courts, there is also a fully functional beach fit for camping, swimming, fishing, and boating. The beach also has a drive in style movie area where the youth can join together and watch a movie.
The official sporting events for the 2022 Treaty 2 Territory Youth Summer Games are
- Co-ed Slo-Pitch
- Cross Country Running
- Lacrosse (demonstration sport)
The games are open to all citizens of one of the 12 Treaty 2 Nations from ages 12-21, as well as youth living, working, or attending school in one of the 12 Treaty 2 Nations.
All athletes will be put into a pool to make up 4 teams per sport, with 2 or 3 different age categories. This is to promote a united Anishinaabe Nation, as well as have smaller nations attend with fewer athletes. We don’t want any nation or youth left out. Unite the Nations by Sport!
The official call out for athletes has been sent to the Treaty 2 Youth Council who each have representatives in the 12 nations. Contact your local Treaty 2 Youth Council member to register for the games.

The Summer Games committee hashed out a lot of details regarding the logistics and were very organized for the 2nd meeting. Tyrone Desjarlais invited the community to attend and the crowd had gotten bigger. The community is eager to host and have a great team behind them. Next Summer Games meeting is set for May 30, 2022 at Eagles Island to view the grounds and get updates from the committee.
We aim to Unite our Nations through Sport in a safe and nourishing environment, while identifying elite athletes.
