Treaty 2 Territory – Our Treaty 2 Territory Anishinaabek Government Congratulate Minegoziibe Anishinabe on their announcement to purchase Trapper Don’s Outfitting Lodge & Property in their ancestral lands in the Duck Mountain Watershed.
This purchase of land will reclaim strategic spaces within their ancestral territory to help build safe spaces for the health, healing and wellbeing of the Minegoziibe Anishinabek.
Ogimaa Derek Nepinak said “In recent years we have seen the devastating impacts on mental wellbeing and the harmful escalation of access to drugs and addiction in our communities. Like every community, we have a responsibility as Leadership to build solutions that respect our families including those struggling with addiction”.
This area will become known for land based healing strategies and those struggling with addiction and seeking healing and help from the wounds of inter-generational trauma, will have a place to seek that support.
“I’m happy to say that future healing opportunities at this site will be designed to be responsive to the unique needs of our families seeking to reclaim ‘Mino Bimaadiziwin’ concluded Ogimaa Nepinak.
When and where possible, this space may become available to friends, and neighbouring Nations to assist their citizens in their healing journeys as well. We will continue to share updates on this Minegoziibe Nation Development Project as they become available.
