Treaty 2 Territory – On June 23,2022 a sod turning ceremony was done as the first step in developing an all-season recreation park in Dauphin Mb. “ Maamawi” Park will be a all season toboggan park, bike trails, walking trails. It is a positive step in starting Reconciliation in Dauphin with all residents to enjoy this park. FNT2T, Dauphin Coop, Manitoba Metis Federation, along with Mayor Christian Laughland were part of the sod turning ceremony. Knowledge Keeper John Houle from Ebb and Flow spoke about reconciliation and how the park will be enjoyed by all people in the area. This will give the opportunity for youth to meet and form positive relationships. He gave a prayer for a good day and positive future for Dauphin and all that will utilize the park. With Dauphin having a high number of indigenous residents and numerous nations in the area, this is a positive step forward in people meeting and learning about each other who live in the same area.
Maamawi park will be built in phases for the next following years. FNT2T would like to thank the city of Dauphin, and Dauphin Coop to be part of this exciting and new recreation park for all residents of Dauphin and surrounding areas. This is a great day for Reconciliation in treaty 2 territory.
