Summer Games Circle putting finishing touches on games! T2 Youth Summer Games August 9 and 10 in Kakakwekejeong.

July 29, 2022

Treaty 2 Territory – The Treaty 2 Territory Summer Games Circle met yesterday, and are starting to put the final touches on the summer games.  The games are a go for August 9 and 10, rain or shine.  The opening ceremony goes on August 9 at 12:00 pm, with North Wolf Ojibway singing in the athletes.  The nations athletes will be carrying their own flags in, and Ogitchitaa McLean and Ogiimaa Wayne Desjarlais will be on hand, as well as Treaty 2 Territory nation Ogiimaag.  It will definitely be a spectical to see!

Kakakwekejeong is expecting 300 athletes from Treaty 2 Territory nations, and the campers arrive August 8 in the evening.  They want everyone to know that safety is the main concern for the circle, and they will have security around the clock making sure safety is number 1.  Security will start at 5:00 pm on Monday August 8, and will be on site for the duration of the games.  There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in place and there will be NO illicit drugs, alcohol, or any type of violence, this goes for all athletes, spectators, chaperones, family members.  Violators will be subject to disqualification and ejection from the Summer Games grounds.  NOTE: Camping is only open to athletes, chaperone’s, volunteers, and athletes family/guardians.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper will be served daily, as well as water and snacks, all provided by the Summer Games Circle.  There will be 3 local food vendors on site for those who wish to purchase some good ole fries and gravy.

The Games are open for everyone to spectate, and the lake is open for those to use for fishing, boating, swimming, and bathing lol just kidding.  The Circle will have transportation for those who would like to shower to a designated spot.  No ATV’s are allowed on the grounds due to safety concerns.

Eagles Island looks great, chii-miigwech to the summer students who have been working hard all July to help get the grounds to what is it today!  Sand is being delivered this week for the volleyball court, and gravel for the sides of the basketball court.  The ball diamonds have bails of hay, but those are being cleared this weekend as well.

Summer Games Circle Chair Tyrone Desjarlais adds “The games are just around the corner and Eagle Island is ready for all the athletes.  Big thanks to the local Ebb And Flow high school students for getting the grounds up to par.  The students have been working hard at the Island and taking pride in their work.  Hats off to them.”

On August 9, the Odaminoang Circle (Treaty 2 Sports and Recreation) will be presenting the Odaminoang Onakonehkewin (Sports and Rec Law) at 7:00 pm for the athletes to take part if they wish.  This law has been a year in the making, and I am excited to share it with everyone!  We are another step closer for this becoming a LAW in our Territory!  You can read more at: First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory- Odaminoang Circle is ready for Grand Council – 23/24 August 2022 Kakakwekejeong (
