Pinaymootang breaks ground on their new Recreation Centre!

August 15, 2022

Treaty 2 Territory- It was an amazing morning in Pinaymootang, a day of triumph.. a day for the youth!  Today the citizens of Pinaymootang broke ground on their brand new Recreation centre!  We were welcomed by good words from the Ogiimaa Anderson and Council, and as their ground breaking ceremony began, it was joined by 7 golden eagles who flew in from the East!

(Golden Eagles in the sky)

The council spoke on a number of things, but mainly the youth.  Ogiimaa Anderson stated that the work being done for the youth doesn’t stop with the rec centre, they are doing more and more programming and recreational things for them.

The Pinaymootang Recreation Center will be located behind the conference centre and hotel, and it will be a 75″ x 100″ facility equipped for gym nights and drop in.  It is adjacent to their ball diamonds, volleyball courts, and outdoor skating rink.  We commend the leadership of Pinaymootang on their efforts toward youth recreation and sport, this is another great addition to an already thriving sport nation.

The closing remarks and prayer from Pastor Robert McLean mentioned “We are a Christian community, but the recreation centre will be for everyone of all beliefs”.  For me, this is a beautiful thing to hear.  It goes hand and hand with the Odaminoang Onakonehkewin, where there should be no barriers when it comes to sport, recreation, and arts!  It is amazing to see people of all beliefs being recognized by the nation, we are stronger together.

The Pinaymootang Recreation Center is set to be complete by summer 2023, and best believe we will be on hand for the cutting of the ribbon!  Miigwech to Pinaymootang for having us, and Miigwech to YOU for reading.
