Treaty 2 Territory – With heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our grandmother Ozhaawashko-Binesi Iwke (Mary Houle). Mary was our Grandmother, founding member of our Grandmother Council and proud member of Kakakwekejeong. She will join her husband Ozhaawashko-Binesi (Percy Houle) who was very instrumental for our Nation, Territory and Government and left us for the spirit world last year.
“We have lost a huge part of our Nation today with Mary going to the spirit world. We would like to send prayers, smudge, and thoughts right now to her family and the Nation of Kakakwekejeong”, said Ogichidaa Cornell McLean.
During the grand entry at Kakakwekejeong Ogema Wayne Desjarlais and Knowledge Council Chair acknowledged the work Mary did for many years for Kakakwekejeong and the Treaty 2 Territory.
We were very fortunate to have such a wonderful person teach and guide us; she will truly be missed. She will always sit with us at the sacred fire, now on the other side.
The Grand Council in Kakakwekejeong that was set for August 23/24 will be postponed to a later date.
