Anishinaabek Council
The role of the Council as mandated by the Grand Council is to implement Life Long Learning and Health and Wellness within the Treaty 2 territory.
EDUCATION
The Councilwill work on all matters relating to Education in Treaty 2, based on the principles of Mino-Bimaadiziwin, that education is a life-long process, designed to teach how to live life in a good way as Anishinaabe. Life Long Learning in this context includes but is not limited to Pre-school, K-12, Post-Secondary, Adult Education, Language Education, Land-based and Cultural-based education, and the Treaty No.2 school system as authorized by the Treaty No.2 Education Act.
The Council duties and responsibilities for Education include ensuring that all matters relating to Education be guided by the principles of the Seven Anishinaabe Teachings, and Anishinaabe Mino Bimaadiziwin, and their related concepts. To commission expert studies, review reports, make recommendations, draft laws, and regulations pertaining to education.
Advisory to senior officials in discussion and negotiations on the behalf of the Anishinaabek Council with various levels of government, and Life Long Learning.
Each Anishinaabe member Nation appoints one individual to the Council.
