Governing Council

On 12 June 2018, the Anishinaabe Agowidiiwinan resolved to create a Nation-based treaty-based temporary collective Government of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory (FNT2T);
The term ‘temporary’ regarding the collective Government of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory shall cease to exist and become permanent when the people of a majority of the First Nations have developed and have ratified their respective Nation First Law (constitution) and have met to establish a collective Treaty constitutional government;
In exercising our Inherent Right to Self-Government, the Government of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory has created a legislative body with the authority and power to enact laws and temporary the Governing Council.
The Legislative Law-Making of the Temporary Government of the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory is hereby established, and shall exist for the lesser of; four (4) years from the date of this resolution, or until such time when the formal Constitution of the Permanent Government of the Collective First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory has been duly established and ratified by the Peoples and First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory;
The Governing Council is charged with overseeing the development, preparation and implementation of the formal mechanisms, including rules and procedures, terms of reference, policies, orders, and whatever other documents that are necessary for the implementation and operation of this temporary Legislative Law-Making.
