Treaty 2 Territory – Grand Chief Eugene Eastman joined the First Nations in Treaty 2 Territory staff at the Government Building in Dauphin on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 during the Rebuilding Our Nation session. Grand Chief Eastman shared some of his experiences as Ogimaa (leader). One of things Grand Chief shared was his teachings by former leaders and how they did some of the work, we’re currently doing now, in the past. Grand Chief said “We have come full circle…” with the implementation of the treaties. The treaties are unfinished business and the time is now to move forward. “There is something good coming for our people….and we need to look at who we are” says Grand Chief Eastman. There are some struggles and stressful days, but Grand Chief reminded staff of the future generations, our grandchildren, and the work we do. The work we do is for them. Grand Chief concluded by praising and encouraging the staff, and thanking staff for the opportunity to share some of his experiences and thoughts. Following the discussion, Sport & Recreation Keeper Lana Racette presented Grand Chief Eastman with an eagle feather, which is a symbol of respect and protection, on behalf of the FNT2T staff. Grand Chief Eastman was very humble and thanked the staff.
